Her work focuses especially on the food, ceremony and spirituality of the Quechua peoples in and around Cuzco, trying to integrate these fully into schools beyond the mere tokenistic approach that is most often taken.

Elena is a free spirited woman who has brought a model of educational transformation to Peru. Based on a research paper called “How do children learn in the Andean zone of Cusco?” Elena has begun inspiring school teachers in the province of Canchis, Cusco, to introduce a bilingual intercultural education model for rural areas, to their classrooms.

For more than a decade, Elena has been promoting the incorporation of local wisdom to the educational process, including, as a pedagogical means, the creation of school farms as a way of bringing children back to nature, and teaching valuable life skills and imperative traditional knowledge to future generations. Today more than 3000 children from different schools have experienced the program of cultural affirmation with the support of the Center for the Promotion of Intercultural Wisdom (CEPROSI).

Why You Should Come:

Each year during this time in February, the Grandmothers travel back to the homelands of our Maori grandmothers. Grandmother Eila’s invitation to come and stay at the Sharda retreat center just outside beautiful Auckland is like going to visit your grandmother’s home – but so much better. Sharda Retreat Center is full of the kind of energy that will boost you to a new level of consciousness.  We will introduce rebirthing exercises that will bring you to a richer understanding of life.  You will experience the 4-element teachings during your time with the Grandmothers.  Plus, we will venture to Rotorua, along with visiting Hobbiton, home of Lord of the Rings set. Dining at a Marae while enjoying some beautiful Mouri cultural entertainment.

What We Will Do:
We will spend the first 6 days at the center enjoying the richness, the knowledge and teachings of the four grandmothers, and taking some day trips to visit some of the sites sacred to the Maori people. Each of you will have individual time with each of the grandmothers.

Then, we will travel to another beautiful part of the north island called Rotorua, a lovely quaint city resting beside a lake and home to hot pools, heated sands and many geysers. You’ll have access to a wellness spa and tourist attractions. During your visit in this area, you will experience the energizing mud pools, along with some personnel shopping time. But let’s not forget, we all need to please the child within each of us. We will also travel to Hobbiton where they filmed Lord of the Rings Trilogy films.

After our tourism adventure, we all will return north. We haven’t forgotten the beautiful traditions of the Maori people. We are all invited to visit a Marae (a sacred long house) of the Maori people. A nationally renowned Haka Group will share their dance/ritual with us while we enjoy a meal. If you have never experienced the Haka, this will be a treat as this is one of the Islands/cultural highlights. The following day, our dear Great-grandmother Rose Pere will grace us with her knowledge of the Kahukura, the magenta flame and Maori Teachings. Grandmother Rose is like the Dahli Lama of the islands, not to mention her playfulness and her singing talent.

Treat yourself to 10 days of relaxation while absorbing the powerful energy of New Zealand. Enjoy your stay at the beautiful Sharda Retreat Center. Emerge yourself in the atmosphere, as you create the most important foundation for your well-being – bringing yourself back to a more powerful balance.

We’ve consolidated two activities into one 10-day adventure in wellness and rebirthing. We have planned a variety of cultural exercises for the mind, body and spirit. You’ll enjoy delicious healthy foods and time to tour & embrace this beautiful land. Are you interested in getting back to balance and feeling grounded? Come be with us. Walk sacredly with the ancestors in nature, in spirit, and together with one another. This is a journey of healing – for ourselves, our planet, and humanity. All hotels, transportation, and most meals included. And lots of quality time with the Grandmothers.

Berlin: Aug 29 – 31. Muritz National Park: Aug 31 – Sep 4. Kurawaka Holland: Sep 5-8

Berlin, Rigpa Dharma Mati: Aug 30, 7-9pm

Aug 30th:

We want to give thanks to everyone who is with us on this Journey. The people at the Rigpa Dharma Center where we are staying who are so generous and kind. The people we met tonight, some from far away as Colombia. The hall here was over packed – so many people joining their hearts with ours. We are so grateful.
We sang Rose’s song A EE O, in German. It was fabulous. Eyes overflowed. Our hearts celebrate in love.
And we are grateful for the children who were here tonight. And the Grandfathers who were here to support us all.
We are with you. We feel your presence.

Aug 29th:

Hi Everyone,
This is our first night on the Journey. I’m here with Great Grandmother Mary and Akbar. We all flew in today, at different times. Max, Katerina and Grandmother Moetu welcomed us, and brought us to the Rigpa Dharma Center here in Berlin. This is an exquisite retreat with a natural park, sacred spaces, and clean, bright, spacious and clear atmosphere. We are at home.

With respect for those who live here, their ancestors and also for this land, 10 of us made an offering, asking that we be allowed to come onto this land – not to take, but to learn, to receive and to share. It was a a precious moment for all of us. We are grateful to be here.

Grandmother Moetu Taiha sends aroha nu nui to all our dear ones near far and wide

It’s been a lovely beginning.
We are with you in heart and spirit. We feel your presence.

September 2nd: Water Ceremonies at Muritz Lake

September 2nd: Water Ceremonies at Muritz Lake

After breakfast our group got onto the park bus and headed to Germany’s largest lake, Muritz Lake, which is fed by no rivers yet feeds many rivers, has drinking-quality crystal-clear waters, and is the home to many sea eagles, herons, fish, snakes, and ravens, who all visited us while there. Muritz literally translates to “little ocean” and is a Slavic name.

Great-Grandmother Mary brought water from Axel’s well that she had prayed over for 24hrs, and had everyone put their love and prayers for healing the waters of the world (especially in North Dakota and Hopi Reservation). We carried the pail to the lake where Grandmother Alina (a local German Grandmother who prays for the water and nature spirits hereabouts) welcomed us to the waters with Grandmother Akila and Axel, who stood ankle deep in the Muritz.

(No photos were taken of any ceremony)

We sang the water song from Doreen Day and Grandmothers Moetu and Eila led us in the Maori Puri, which is a symbolic purification dunking fully in the waters – we sang holding hands and walking out across the soft silty lake bed into the chilly shallow lake with sunshine beaming down all around us. This was about becoming one with the water, remembering to be one with the waters, and returning to that pure state.

A German biologist offered her song and invited all to pray silently for the waters of the Muritz and the world, and we closed by drinking the blessed waters from Grandmother Mary.

  1. As we share in the Havasupai Circle – – – Never speaking. I listen, I care. I feel. I sing. I prayer. From the great trunk I cry for the pain and suffering of the branches of our humanness. There are no words to convey what is occurring for I hear and am absorbed within that which is transpiring behind that which appears. A Great Blessing It Is.
